RESEARCH PROFILE
My scientific work touches on two areas of ethnology. The first is focused on ethnic and migration processes and changes, especially in relation to Central Europe and the Balkans (German, Bulgarian and Greek minorities in the Czech Republic, Ruthenians in Romania, Czech in Croatia, etc.). In this direction I focus on aspects of cultural plurality, acculturation and assimilation, relations with the homeland and transformations of traditional cultural elements in a new or changed environment. This point of view is already related to current research on the concept of the cultural heritage of Czechs and minorities in the Czech Republic and of Czech minorities abroad.
The second area of my interest is verbal folklore (oral narratives), especialy the research of folk tales, legends and anecdotes. I focus mainly on the Czech narrative tradition, within which I also deal with the oral tradition of Czech Germans, Roma and Poles as traditional inhabitants of the Czech lands. Since 2019, I have been gradually publishing colected Czech folk tales and anecdotes, because Czech folklorists has not yet coped with this task, unlike most of Europe. Of the planned 14 volumes, 3 have been published so far, the fourth volume is in print.
Within the framework of a vide international network, I cooperate mainly with colleagues from the countries of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
