The Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IE CAS) invites junior researchers, PhD holders, to apply for a postdoc scholarship funded by the Czech Academy of Sciences. The selection will be a result of a two-staged process. The Institute will select eligible candidates whose materials will be passed on to the Board of the Czech Academy of Sciences, which awards the successful candidates with the scholarship. The date of the start of the contract is 1st January 2025. The Institute provides all the necessary equipment for research, library services etc. Researchers are expected to be in residence in Prague. During their residence, researchers are expected to publish scholarly papers/books and participate in all activities of the IE CAS (research seminars, conferences and other events).

In the first stage candidates might be invited for an online interview, in the second stage the selection will be made only on the basis of the written materials. The IE CAS reserves the right not to fill the position.

The position is open to post-docs, who in the moment of application can have max. two years after acquiring PhD (excluding possible parental leave and/or long-term stay abroad, in such case the maximum time span between acquiring PhD and applying can be 4 years). The candidates must hold their PhD degree at the time of applying for the position.

The applicant is obliged to consult the application before submitting with the head of the respective IE CAS department in which he/she intends to implement the postdoctoral project.

Application must contain (in one PDF file):

- Curriculum Vitae and List of publications

- Proof of the PhD degree

- Project title, project proposal including planned deliverables and a rough work plan (together up to 4500 characters incl. spaces), please indicate the preferred length of the contract between 12 and 24 months

- Letter of motivation

- A document of up to 300 words in which the candidate answers the following three questions: (1) How does your project fit into the concept of the IE CAS department you are applying for? (2) What are the financial implications of the project? This is particularly relevant for any field research that cannot be directly funded by the scholarship. (3) What are the main ethical challenges of the project?
