Launch of the Second Round of Entries: April 11, 2025.
To enhance the visibility of Romani history and culture in the Americas, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and its partners, including the Institute of Ethnology, launched the Romani Memory Map for the Americas on International Roma Day, 8 April 2024. This initial map featured 29 entries from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, and the United States.
In observance of International Roma Day on 8 April 2025, the Romani Memory Map for the Americas is being relaunched with 21 additional entries. These new entries include contributions from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the United States.

The Romani Memory Map for the Americas is a collective, crowd-sourced initiative led by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in partnership with Gonzaga University, the Laboratory of Studies on Ethnicity, Racism, and Discrimination (LEER) at the University of São Paulo (Brazil), the Institute of Ethnology at the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Anthropological Sciences at University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Associação Internacional Maylê Sara Kali (AMSK/Brazil) alongside Romani human rights defenders and civil society organizations from the Americas and beyond.
